Phalcon is a framework that differs from the rest. Developers cannot update the framework using tools like composer with one command. Instead the extension needs to be recompiled with each new update. Some people find this a problem and a nuisance. Others, like us, find it entertaining!
The Phalcon Team is happy to announce the release of v4.0.0 Alpha 2! Github Tag
We cannot thank your community enough! By reporting bugs, offering feedback and suggestions, pull requests, being active in discussions about how the framework should move towards the future, you all help us make Phalcon better with every release.
For Phalcon v4 we wanted to enhance our documentation and make it as thorough and precise as possible. Admittedly our documentation has been lacking a lot of content, with features not being well documented, being incorrect or not documented at all. Along with that, we had a lot of broken links that were already indexed by search engines, and our redirect rules were not covering everything. That lead to a lot of frustration because developers were not able to find what they were looking for. We started an effort to correct all the above, and continuing to do so on a daily basis, with the goal being that v4 documentation is as thorough and precise as possible.
The first community hangout of 2019 was awesome and super fun! We are really happy to interact with the community and offer news, vision and problems we are facing in the Phalcon ecosystem.
If you have missed the live hangout, you can watch it on YouTube:
In an effort to keep the community informed as much as possible, we are going to be holding a community hangout on Saturday the 26th of January 2019, at 12:00:00 EST. We want to talk to the community, listen to the concerns and provide clarifications to areas that the community is potentially struggling.
We will hold this virtual meeting in a Google Hangout on Air, which will also broadcast it on YouTube to ensure that not only 10 people can attend :)
We wanted to close the year in a high note, so we worked really hard and managed to release Phalcon v4-alpha1 on Christmas day. This was a present to the community and we are very happy that it was well received, with its bugs and all :)
This blog post will help you upgrade your existing Phalcon application to v4-alpha1. We will outline the areas that you need to pay attention to and make necessary alterations so that your code can run as smooth as it has been with v3. Although the changes are significant, it is more of a methodical task than a daunting one.
The Phalcon Team wishes all of our friends, contributors, developers and users of the framework a Merry Christmas!. We hope that the new year will bring health and happiness to you and your loved ones!
After months of work on v4 (most of them long nights), we are happy to announce the release of Phalcon v4.0.0 Alpha 1 as a small gift to our friends and community for this joyous day.
